Summer Sales and Preparing for Fall Fashion

Published by robinmarie under Uncategorized Edit This

Fall 2008 Fashion

I love sales. Sales are amazing. And while I probably should care that the clothes that I buy on sale are only going to be “in style” for the next month or so, I don’t. I figure that I can wear a piece or two that I buy this season with a piece or two that I buy next season and then, I have cute clothes for when I want them.

Fortunately, now is the season for sales, and they are everywhere: 50-70% off all summer fashions. So now is the time to pick up that shirt or skirt that you really really loved but couldn’t afford, or didn’t want to buy yet.

It’s also the time to start preparing for the next season. By buying things that will work for both summer and fall, you’re saving yourself time and money - hopefully, you’ll be able to wear them next season, too.

Consider colors like white, chocolate brown, purple, blue and orange, which are appropriate for both seasons. You’ll get the most wear out of these - for both summer and fall - any year. If you want to dress it up with something spicier, metallic accessories are in and will be in for fall, as well. Remember, the pieces are big this season, so you don’t need a lot of them to make a statement.

Dressing Your Best

Published by robinmarie under Uncategorized Edit This

which do you think looks better?

My roommate and I were shopping the other day and realized something terrible: many of the clothes that are “in-style” look terrible on us. They don’t fit well. They don’t flatter our figures. They don’t make us look our best.

Consider the pictures of Mariah Carey above, and even though she looks amazing in both, that’s not the way it is for most of us. I’m sorry, ladies, but boot cut jeans and skinny jeans don’t look good on everyone. If they do look good on you, by all means, wear them, but don’t wear something just because it’s fashionable.

For instance, the layered look is still very in, but my roommate can’t wear it. She doesn’t get how to do it, and on the few occasions where she does manage to do it correctly, the look does nothing for her because it accents all the wrong places.

I can’t wear skinny jeans, but flared jeans look amazing on me. Unfortunately, many stores are selling skinny jeans, the expensive stores, like Macy’s and Buckle, do sell flared jeans. So, I pay a bit more for something people don’t think is in, but I look better, which makes me feel better.

Today, at the coffee shop was a girl who was wearing two shirts that are very “in” together. Together, the shirts did nothing for her, making her chest look smaller and her stomach look bigger. Individually, the one shirt would have drawn away from her stomach to her chest and the other would have drawn people up to her bright green eyes.

When you sell yourself short by wearing something because it’s in style, instead of because it looks good on you, you’re doing yourself a disservice. When you look your best, wearing clothes that enhance the good part of your body - slim waist, nice bust, trim legs, pretty face, toned arms, etc - you will look better, whether or not the style is “in.”
